The Student Government Association and Project Africa are two groups helping to enlist students for the annual Basura Bash cleanup set Feb. 26 along the San Antonio River.
Helen Ballew, director of the Headwaters Coalition, a division of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, said 200 volunteers are signed up to help out.
Volunteering for the Basura Bash is not only an excellent way to help clean up the community and a landmark in which the city takes great pride, but also a way to fulfill the University of the Incarnate Word’s requirement for 45 community service hours required for graduation, Ballew said.
People still may have the opportunity to help out by inquiring with the SGA and Project Africa, Ballew said.
